| dc.description.abstract | Obesity is a metabolic disorder characterized by excessive accumulation of triglycerides in white adipose tissue (WAT). This condition can trigger the production of monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 (MCP-1), which induces the secretion of M1-type macrophages, leading to an increase in pro-inflammatory cytokine secretion. A high fat fructose diet (HFFD) plays a role in increasing the risk of obesity. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of banana-based analog rice on IL-1β levels in rats given an HFFD. One effort to manage obesity is through functional food interventions, such as banana-based analog rice. This study is a true experimental laboratory research with a posttest-only control group design. This study used male wistar rats, aged 2–3 months, weighing 150–250 grams, healthy, and had never been used in previous studies. Acclimatization was carried out for 7 days, followed by randomization into 4 groups: KN, P1, P2, and K-. The KN group consisted of normal rats given a standard pellet and not induced with HFFD. The P1, P2, and K- groups were induced with HFFD for 14 days and then experienced a weight gain of more than 10%. After the induction phase, the treatment phase lasted for 21 days, during which the P1, P2, and K- groups were fed sequentially with rice, banana-based analog rice, and standard pellet. IL-1β levels were measured only once after the treatment phase using the ELISA method. The mean IL-1β levels after treatment in each group were: KN 4.61 ± 1.6 mg/dl; P1 3.99 ± 0.7 mg/dl; P2 2.58 ± 1.1 mg/dl; and P3 3.64 ± 2.1 mg/dl. Normality and homogeneity tests showed all data were normal and homogeneous (p>0.05), then the data were analyzed using One Way ANOVA, resulting in a significance value of 0.212 (p>0.05). The conclusion of this study is that the administration of bananabased analog rice did not show significant results in reducing IL-1β levels in rats given an HFFD. | |
