Abstract
Cardamom (Elettaria cardamomum) is widely cultivated under intercropping systems to optimize land use and increase farmers' income. However, differences in stand characteristics and cultivation practices in intercropping systems are assumed to influence the agromorphological characteristics of cardamom. This study aimed to determine the differences in the agromorphological characteristics of cardamom grown under banana and sengon stands and to identify differences
in cultivation practices between the two stand types. The study employed quantitative and qualitative methods by comparing cardamom intercropped with banana and sengon in Senduro District, Lumajang Regency. A total of 120 plants
were used for quantitative analysis and 30 plants for qualitative analysis. Data were collected through measurements and field observations. Quantitative data were analyzed using an independent samples t-test, while qualitative data were
analyzed descriptively. The results showed significant differences in plant height, number of leaves, and number of potential tillers, whereas the number of mature plants, number of tillers, and pseudostem diameter did not differ significantly. These differences were likely associated with variations in stand characteristics and cultivation practices that created different growing environments, while qualitative morphological characteristics were generally influenced by genetic factors. The findings are expected to serve as a reference for farmers in selecting appropriate intercropping systems and cultivation practices to improve cardamom growth.
