Gambaran Kapasitas Fungsional pada Pasien Gagal Jantung di RSD dr. Soebandi Jember

Abstract

Heart failure is a chronic condition resulting from the heart's inability to pump blood effectively due to structural and functional impairments. This disease can trigger activity intolerance and a decline in functional capacity. This descriptive quantitative study aimed to evaluate the functional capacity of heart failure patients at RSD dr. Soebandi Jember. Using a consecutive sampling technique, 84 respondents were assessed through demographic questionnaires and the Five Times Sit-to-Stand Test (5STS). Data analysis was conducted univariately. The findings revealed a median age of 57 years, with a majority being male (53.6%), primary school graduates (60.7%), and categorized as NYHA Class II (53.6%). The results of the 5STS test showed that 100% of the participants completed the test in ≥ 9.5 seconds, with an average time of 18.65 seconds. This indicates that all participants had poor functional capacity. Poor functional capacity in heart failure is caused by a reduced cardiac output, which leads to changes in skeletal muscle fiber composition and mitochondrial dysfunction. Cardiac rehabilitation can be provided to patients with heart failure to improve cardiac function, thereby increasing the patient’s functional capacity.
