Pengembangan Media Komik Digital Cerita Rakyat "Legenda Putri Jembersari" untuk Pembelajaran Membaca Pemahaman Siswa Kelas IV SDN Tegal Gede 03 Jember

Abstract

Reading comprehension is one of the essential skills that elementary school students must possess. However, students’ reading comprehension abilities remain relatively low, especially when it comes to understanding narrative texts such as folktales. This situation is largely due to the use of conventional learning media, which tend to be less engaging and fail to encourage active student participation in the learning process. Therefore, there is a need for innovative learning media that can optimally enhance students’ understanding and interest in learning. This study aims to develop a digital comic learning medium based on the folktale “Legenda Putri Jembersari” and to determine its validity, practicality, and effectiveness in improving students’ reading comprehension. The research employs the Research and Development (R&D) method using the Borg and Gall development model, carried out up to the eighth stage. The study was conducted at SDN Tegal Gede 03 Jember with 28 fourth-grade students as research subjects. Data were collected through interviews, observations, questionnaires, learning outcome tests, and documentation. The data obtained were analyzed using descriptive quantitative analysis. The results show that the developed digital comic medium falls into the “highly valid” category, with a validity percentage of 87.4%. The practicality test results indicate that the medium is “highly practical,” with student responses exceeding 80%. Furthermore, the effectiveness test results reveal that 82% of students achieved mastery learning, categorizing the medium as “highly effective.” Thus, the digital comic learning medium based on the folktale “Legenda Putri Jembersari” is considered feasible and effective as an alternative learning tool to enhance elementary students’ reading comprehension.
