Abstract

Literature is one of human creativities which concerns to human life and problems, and connected to language, imagination and experiences. By studying literature we can experience a new world through our imagination. Roberts (1986: 2) points out that literature helps us grow, both personally and intellectually. Literature provides an objective base for our knowledge and understanding. Beside giving entertainment, a work of literature also gives information, or even lessons. An author composes a literary work in a special language and certain form, in order to make its interpretation, enjoyment, or analysis possible to realize. Novel is a literary form besides poctry and drama that reveals a large and complex social condition involving relations of the characters. Novel is a certain literary form which is characterized by the fictional attempt to give the effect of realism by representing complex characters with mixed motives (Abrams, 1981 : 120 ). It shows that though novel is a fiction, it usually contains the real problems of the world
