Reaktivasi Jalur Kereta Api Tarik-Sidoarjo Tahun 2009-2018

Abstract

ABSTRACT This study examines the reactivation of the Tarik-Sidoarjo railway line from 2009 to 2018 as part of a government effort to revive non-operational railway lines in East Java. The background of this research concerns the growing need for mass transportation and the disruption of the Porong–Tanggulangin line caused by the Lapindo mudflow disaster in 2006. The reactivation was carried out by the Directorate General of Railways, in collaboration with PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero), to support passenger mobility and goods distribution via alternative routes. This research aims to (1) explain the background to the reactivation of the Tarik-Sidoarjo railway line, (2) determine the implementation process behind the reactivation of the Tarik-Sidoarjo railway line, and (3) determine the impact of the reactivation of the Tarik-Sidoarjo railway line. The method used is a historical method through heuristics, source criticism, interpretation, and historiography. Data were obtained from archives, official documents, journals, newspapers, and interviews with relevant parties. This research uses a transportation history approach supported by theories of transportation economics and infrastructure modernization. The research results show that the reactivation of the Tarik-Sidoarjo line was carried out in stages through rail reconstruction, sleeper replacement, bridge construction, and the operation of the Jenggala train. This reactivation involved collaboration between the central government, PT KAI (Indonesian Railway Company), and the Sidoarjo regional government. The resulting impacts include increased travel and transport capacity, improved mobility patterns between the Tarik-Sidoarjo area, and improved time efficiency and inter-regional transportation connectivity. This study concludes that the reactivation of the Tarik-Sidoarjo railway line is crucial to supporting sustainable transportation and railway modernization in East Java.
