Program Pengelolaan Bank Sampah Si Kupik di Tegal Besar Kecamatan Kaliwates

Abstract

Waste has become an increasing environmental problem, caused not only by inadequate facilities but also by low level of public awareness regarding proper waste management. One community-based effort to address this issues is the implementation of a waste bank program based on the 3R principles (reduce,reuse,recycle). This study aimed to describe the waste management program implemented by Si Kupik Waste Bank in Tegal Besar, Kaliwates District, Jember Regency, and its role in environmental education and changing community perceptions of waste. This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach. The research location was selected using purposive area sampling, while informants were chosen through purposive sampling, while informants were chosen through purposive sampling, consisting of two key informants and three supporting informants. Data were collection, reduction, display, and conclusing drawing. The findings revealed that the Si Kupik Waste Bank successfully implemented the 3R principles. The reduce program increased public awareness of reducing single-use plastics through continous socialization and education. The reuse program encouraged residents to utilize reusable materials and transform waste into useful product through training and practical activies. Meanwhile, the recycle program improved community skills in waste sorting, participation in waste collection and recording systems, and involvement in recycling training activies. These programs changed community perceptions, from viewing waste as worthless material to recognizing it as a resource with environmental and economic value. Overall, the program contributade to waste reduction, environmental awareness, community empowerment, and sustainable waste management practise.
