Penerapan Teori Internal Focalization dan Subjective narration pada Penyutradaraan Film Soro

Abstract

Poverty is one of the most significant social issues, affecting not only people's economic conditions but also their psychological well-being. Continuous pressure caused by financial hardship can lead to hopelessness, loss of motivation, and mental health problems. Based on this phenomenon, the filmmaker created the short fiction film Soro, which aims to represent the inner experiences of the main character through the application of internal focalization as the primary theory and subjective narration as the supporting theory. The creative process consisted of three stages: pre-production, production, and post-production. The preproduction stage included observation, idea development, screenplay writing, casting, script reading, location recce, and technical preparation. The production stage focused on directing and implementing the visual concept, while the post-production stage involved picture editing, sound design, foley recording, color grading, and final film completion. Both theories were implemented through a subjective cinematography approach, supported by a linear plot structure and a minimalist psychological narrative, allowing the audience to experience the story only through what the main character knows, perceives, and feels. The results demonstrate that the application of internal focalization and subjective narration successfully creates a deeper subjective experience through visual composition, lens selection, camera movement, editing rhythm, and sound design. Consequently, Soro portrays poverty not merely as an economic issue but also as a psychological experience, encouraging audiences to understand and emotionally experience the mental burden endured by the main character.
