Abstract
This research examines the dynamics of the "MAR" tofu home industry in
Tinalan Village, Pesantren District, Kediri City, from 2006 to 2023. The study is
rooted in the context of population mobility, particularly focusing on horizontal
mobility, where individuals migrate in search of better economic opportunities. The
establishment of the "MAR" tofu industry is closely linked to the migration patterns
of both Chinese and indigenous Javanese communities, who have contributed
significantly to the local tofu industry.
The objectives of this research are twofold: first, to analyze the background
of the establishment of the "MAR" tofu industry, and second, to explore the
dynamics faced by the business over the specified period. Employing a historical
research method, the study utilizes a sociological industrial approach and
microeconomic theory to analyze production, distribution, and marketing strategies
of the "MAR" tofu industry.
Findings indicate that the "MAR" tofu industry has experienced significant
growth and challenges, particularly in production capacity and market adaptation.
Despite facing obstacles such as fluctuating raw material prices and health-related
issues of the owner, the industry has shown resilience through product innovation
and effective marketing strategies, including the use of social media and e
commerce platforms. The research contributes to a deeper understanding of the
sustainability and innovation of home industries in the context of local economic
development in Kediri.
