Mise-En-Scene untuk Membangun Surprise pada Film Deadpool 2

Abstract

Films are not only written but also produced to communicate information and ideas, as well as to showcase various aspects of life that may not be familiar to the audience (Bordwell and Thompson, 2017:2). In general, films are divided into two types, namely documentary and fiction, each with its own purpose: documentary to convey information, and fiction to entertain the audience (Bordwell and Thompson, 2017:2). Film involves many individuals who contribute to the creative process of audio-visual production, combining their ideas and roles to create a comprehensive work. One technique that is often used in filmmaking is mise-en-scene, which includes setting the setting, lighting, fashion and makeup, and staging (Bordwell and Thompson, 2017:113-115). Deadpool 2, an action comedy film directed by David Leitch and produced by Marvel Entertainment in 2018, tells the story of Wade Wilson's mission to save a young mutant, Russel Collins, from an evil headmaster. The film features the use of mise-en-scenes to achieve realism and build an atmosphere and present a fantasy that appeals to the audience (Bordwell and Thompson, 2017:114). Mise-en-scene components such as fashion and props are essential in creating a rich visual experience in a film. They assist in the portrayal of the characters, atmosphere, and development of the story in a dramatic and sometimes surprising way to the viewer (Bordwell and Thompson, 2017:119-124). Dramatic elements such as conflict, suspense, and surprise also play an important role in building emotions and moving the storyline (Lutters, 2004:101). In the context of this study, Deadpool 2 was used as a study object to analyze the use of mise-en-scene components that produced a shock effect on the audience. This analysis identifies how the visual elements and scene settings in the film contribute to the shocking dramatic experience in the story.
