| dc.description.abstract | This study focuses on the use of code-mixing in TikTok content, particularly in sneaker buying and selling activities using a coin flip system on the @uncharted_sply account. This study is conducted because code-mixing is frequently found in digital commercial interactions, yet its types and functions in social media negotiations are still rarely discussed, especially in the context of sneaker trading on TikTok. The purpose of this study is to identify the types of code-mixing based on Muysken’s (2000) theory and the reasons for using code-mixing based on Hoffman’s (1991) theory. This research applies a qualitative descriptive method. The data consist of 31 utterances taken from the transcription of three TikTok videos. The findings show that three types of code-mixing are used, namely insertion, alternation, and congruent lexicalization, with insertion as the most frequently used type. This indicates that the speakers tend to insert English words into Indonesian sentences, especially when discussing sneaker-related topics such as brands, prices, and transaction terms. In terms of reasons, talking about a particular topic appears as the most dominant reason, followed by clarification, emphasis, and expressing group identity. Referring to these findings, code-mixing can be seen as a strategic way for speakers to communicate more clearly and effectively in digital sneaker negotiations. It helps them explain information, strengthen meaning, and position themselves as part of the sneaker community in TikTok trading content. | |
