Resistensi Perempuan Terhadap Dominasi Patriarki di Lingkungan Sekolah dalam Film Moxie (2021): Kajian Wacana dan Kekuasaan Michel Foucault

Abstract

The film Moxie (2021) represents various forms of sexism and patriarchal domination within the school environment. These practices are reflected not only through individual actions but also through institutional policies and attitudes that perpetuate gender inequality. This study aims to analyze the representation of patriarchal domination and women's resistance in Moxie (2021) using Michel Foucault's theory of power relations. This research employed a qualitative method with a critical descriptive approach. The research data consisted of dialogues, scenes, and visual elements in Moxie (2021), collected through documentation techniques and analyzed using Michel Foucault's theory of power relations. The findings reveal that patriarchal domination at Rockport High School operates through discourse, normalization, surveillance, and institutional legitimacy, positioning women in subordinate roles. These mechanisms are represented through the objectification of women's bodies, the silencing of victims' voices, and gender- biased institutional decisions. The study also finds that patriarchal domination is not only maintained by male characters but is also reproduced by a female authority figure, Principal Shelly, whose decisions and attitudes indirectly legitimize sexist practices. Furthermore, women's resistance emerges through Vivian Carter's anonymous distribution of the Moxie zine, which serves as a rupture in the dominant patriarchal discourse within the school. This rupture encourages the development of critical awareness, solidarity among female students, and collective resistance against patriarchal domination. Therefore, Moxie demonstrates that power relations not only produce domination but also create opportunities for resistance and social transformation through the emergence of counter-discourses.
