Abstract
This study aims to describe the role of coaches in Persaudaraan Setia Hati
Terate (PSHT) in developing a sense of brotherhood among early childhood
students at the Ranting Wuluhan Jember. This research is a descriptive qualitative
study. The data for this research was obtained from observations, interviews, and
documentation. The informants in this study were the leader, coaches, and students.
The results of the study show that in practice, guiding students in caring for others
involves the coach teaching them to help their friends prepare body protectors.
Guiding students in mutual respect involves the coach teaching them to greet the
coach and their friends. Guiding students in affection involves the coach teaching
them to support each other. Other aspects of the implementation include directing
students in caring for others by asking them to help their friends return the mats
and body protectors. Directing students in mutual respect involves the coach asking
students not to hurt each other physically or emotionally. Directing students in
affection involves the coach encouraging students to motivate their friends. The
PSHT training at the Ranting Wuluhan Jember applies the methods of advice
(wejangan) and habituation. Training students to care for others involves the coach
habituating students to help their friends set up mats used for practice. Training
students in mutual respect involves the coach habituating students to shake hands
with the coach and other PSHT members. Training students in affection involves
the coach habituating students to encourage their peers during competitions.
Moreover, throughout the training sessions, attitudes of brotherhood such as caring
for others, mutual respect, and affection are consistently applied. This is something
that should be given attention, as the spirit of brotherhood should not only be
practiced during training but also applied in daily life.
