Abstract
Cucumber seeds are the reproductive structures of cucumber plants (Cucumis
sativus L.) that contain embryos and food reserves for their growth. Risk analysis
in the seed production process needs to be carried out to minimize negative impacts,
increase the sustainability, and efficiency of seed production. The purpose of this
study was to determine the risks that affect the cucumber seed production process,
determine the level of risk and causes of risk, and formulate improvement strategies
to increase cucumber seed production. Risk analysis was carried out using the
Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA) method to determine the highest level of
risk that needs to be improved, and Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) to analyze the causes
of the highest risk that will be carried out improvement strategies. Based on the
results of the study, 26 processes and 32 potential risks were identified that affect
the cucumber seed production process. After the analysis using the FMEA method,
8 processes and 9 risks were obtained that had RPN values above the critical RPN
value. The results of the critical RPN value were then analyzed using the FTA
method to determine the root cause of the risk. The improvement strategy was
carried out based on the analysis of risk causes in the FTA method, was involved
conducting a partner farmer school program, comparative studies, and visits to
farmers who had good results.
