Abstract

MTs Sabda Ria Nada is a rural private school facing challenges such as limited facilities and low student enrollment due to stiff competition from public schools. This study aims to identify the strategies implemented by the school and its foundation to sustain the institution's existence amidst this competition. The research employs Talcott Parsons' Structural Functionalism theory, specifically the AGIL scheme (Adaptation, Goal Attainment, Integration, Latency). A descriptive qualitative approach was used, with data collected through observation, in-depth interviews (purposive sampling), and documentation. The findings indicate that survival strategies included providing free shuttle services and uniforms, conducting face-to-face promotions, and utilizing a coffee business unit (Argopuro Walida) to secure funding for the foundation beyond the standard government school operational assistance (BOS) funds. These efforts were deemed successful as the school managed to fulfill the AGIL requirements: adapting to challenges, achieving the goal of providing free religious-based education, fostering harmonious relationships with the community, and maintaining the students' religious character.
