The Representation of Peace Values in Indonesian ELT Textbook for Secondary High School

Abstract

Peace values are an aspect that really needs to be taught to students from an early age in the world of education. This was because of the many cases of bullying and verbal and physical violence that occur in the school environment, especially those related to differences in identity such as religion, ethnicity, physical appearance and social status. This highlights the importance of education as a fundamental basis for instilling peace values. Based on Balasooriya (2001) theory, peace values consisted of three main sources, namely inner peace, social peace and peace with nature. This study aimed to identify the peace values represented in the English textbook used in Grade 10 Senior High Schools in Indonesia. This research focused on the representation of peace values based on Balasooriya (2001).
