Abstract
This study aims to describe the representation of ecological consciousness in the child characters of the story “Anak Guo” by Desti Natalia and to examine its use as an alternative teaching material for response text learning in Grade VII of SMP/MTs. This research employs a descriptive qualitative method within the framework of children’s literature and applies Glotfelty’s ecocritical approach to analyze the relationship between humans and nature as represented through the characters and events in the story. The findings show that the child characters reflect ecological consciousness through traits such as love for the homeland, national spirit, and discipline, which are manifested in actions that contribute to the preservation of the natural environment in Desa Jorong Guo. These representations are aligned with the principles of environmental ethics, ecological facts, and Minangkabau local wisdom. The results of this study contribute to response text learning by supporting writing learning outcomes and strengthening the Profile of Pancasila Students. This study concludes that children’s literature containing ecological values can enhance critical literacy and foster character development that encourages responsible behavior toward the environment.
