dc.description.abstractPorous asphalt effectively manages surfaces runoff but suffers from low structural stability. Concurrently, the massive accumulation of waste tires poses a significant environmental issue in Indonesia. Utilizing waste crumb rubber as an additive presents an innovative solution to enhance the mixture’s stability while recycling polymer waste. This research aims to analyze the effect of adding waste crumb rubber to porous asphalt mixtures using the Australian Asphalt Pavement Association (AAPA) 2004 gradation on its Marshall and permeability characteristics, and to determine the optimum crumb rubber content. The research employed an experimental laboratory testing method. Initially, the optimum asphalt content was determined at 4.5% using 60/70 asphalt. Subsequently, crumb rubber was added with variations of 7%, 7.5%, 8%, and 8.5% against the optimum asphalt weight. Specimens were evaluated through Marshall and permeability tests. The results demonstrated that adding crumb rubber significantly altered the mixture’s performance. Volumetrically, VIM and VMA decreased, whereas VFA and density increased. Mechanically, Marshall stability consistently increased up to the 8,5% variation. Functionally, the permeability coefficient consistently decreased as crumb rubber increased due to pore clogging. Despite these changes, the mixtures met the AAPA specifications at crumb rubber contents below 8.5%. The study concludes that the optimum crumb rubber content is 7%. At this level, the mixture achieves the optimal balance between enhancing structural stability and maintaining a sufficient permeability rate to drain water effectively.
