The Cognitive Level Analysis of Reading Tasks in Indonesian Elt Textbook Based on Revised Bloom’s Taxonomy

Abstract

This research aimed to investigate the distribution of cognitive levels in the English for Change Textbook by the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia. In analyzing the data, the researcher used taxonomy framework by revised Bloom's Taxonomy that has six levels, namely Remembering (C1), Understanding (C2), Applying (C3), Analyzing (C4), Evaluating (C5), and Creating (C6). The researcher collected the questions and instructions of reading tasks from Unit 1 until Unit 5 used checklist table. Therefore, qualitative descriptive methods are used to explain the result. The results showed that the reading tasks are dominated of LOTS with the percentage 78,8%, while HOTS appears to differ significantly, at only 21,2%. It indicated that this textbook more focused on Lower-Order Thinking skills dan Higher-Order Thinking Skills level.
