Abstract

This study explores the perspectives of junior high school students in Jember, Indonesia, about the drilling techniques used in the English Club. Since there aren't many opportunities for children to use English outside of the classroom, teachers frequently use techniques like drilling to help students improve their language proficiency, especially in vocabulary, grammar, and pronunciation. Although drilling is frequently used in formal settings, little is known about how it affects informal settings like English clubs. The study used a qualitative descriptive approach and focused on three eighth-grade children. Semi-structured interviews were conducted in Bahasa Indonesia to gather data. The data gathered were analyzed using thematic analysis proposed by Braun & Clarke (2006)
