| dc.description.abstract | Peace values are important in education because they can support students’ character development and help promote peaceful relationships with themselves, other people, and the environment. EFL textbooks can become a medium for integrating these values because reading texts not only provide language input but also convey social and moral messages. However, the representation of peace values in reading texts of EFL textbooks used in the Merdeka Curriculum still requires further examination, particularly in relation to the Pancasila Student Profile. This study aimed to investigate the types of peace values represented in the reading texts of the EFL textbook English for Productive Learners for eleventh-grade Senior High School students and to examine how those values were represented. This study employed Critical Discourse Analysis using Fairclough’s three-dimensional framework, which consisted of textual analysis, discursive practice, and socio-cultural analysis. The data were collected through the documentation method and were limited to reading texts in the textbook. The findings showed that 36 textual materials represented peace values, consisting of 5 texts representing inner peace, 25 texts representing social peace, and 6 texts representing peace with nature. Social peace became the most dominant value in the textbook. The peace values were represented indirectly through the selection of topics, genre structures, discursive practices, and socio-cultural contexts. Inner peace was mainly represented through self-care, good health, self-control, and personal awareness; social peace through cooperation, human relationships, social responsibility, and community-building; and peace with nature through environmental awareness and preservation. The findings indicated that the textbook functioned not only as English learning material but also as a medium for integrating peace values that were relevant to the character development goals of the Pancasila Student Profile. | |
