Abstract
Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) are one of the important skills that students
must have in facing the challenges of the 21st century, especially in science
learning. However, observations and various studies show that junior high school
students' HOTS skills are still relatively low. This condition is caused by the limited
availability of interactive teaching materials that can train higher-order thinking
skills and the minimal use of artificial intelligence-based technology in learning.
Therefore, this study aims to develop a Google Teachable Machine-based e-module
that is valid, practical, and effective in improving the HOTS of junior high school
science students. This research is a research and development study that uses the
ADDIE model, which includes the stages of Analyze, Design, Develop, Implement,
and Evaluate. The research subjects were 23 students of class VII C of SMPN 1
Pakusari Jember in the odd semester of the 2025/2026 academic year. Data
collection instruments included expert validation sheets, learning implementation
observation sheets, pre-tests and post-tests, and student response questionnaires.
The data were analyzed to determine the validity, practicality, and effectiveness of
the developed e-module. The results showed that the Google Teachable Machine-
based e-module had a validity level in the highly valid category. The practicality of
the e-module was in the highly positive category based on the results of the learning
implementation observation. The effectiveness of the e-module was demonstrated
by an increase in student learning outcomes, as seen from the N-gain score, which
was in the moderate category. In addition, student responses to the use of the e-
module were in the very good category. Based on these results, it can be concluded
that the Google Teachable Machine-based e-module is suitable for use as teaching
material and effective in improving the Higher Order Thinking Skills of junior high
school science students.
