dc.description.abstractThe pre-design of the xylooligosaccharide (XOS) plant from bagasse through the salt hydrolysis process is discussed in this study with a production capacity of 10,000 tons per year. The determination of production capacity is based on the analysis of the projected domestic market balance, import value, exports, and consumption of XOS until 2030. The location of the factory is planned to be in Terbanggi Besar District, Central Lampung Regency, Lampung Province. The production process begins with the pretreatment stage using a 3% NaOH solution to remove lignin, followed by separation using centrifugation, neutralization using acetic acid, xyland precipitation using 95% ethanol, and separation using a rotary drum vacuum filter. The precipitated xilan was then hydrolyzed using a FeCl₂ and MgCl₂ catalyst with a concentration of 0.05 M in a continuous stirring tank reactor at 140°C for 30 minutes. The hydrolyzed product is then purified through a 1 kDa ultrafiltration membrane and 250 Da nanofiltration until XOS products with a purity of around 90% are obtained. The plant is designed to operate continuously for 330 days per year with an operating time of 24 hours per day. The economic feasibility evaluation showed a Total Capital Investment value of IDR 751.89 billion and a Total Production Cost of IDR 626.20 billion per year. The feasibility analysis resulted in a Pay Out Time of 3.5 years, a Rate of Return of 20.4%, a Discounted Cash Flow Rate of Return of 27%, a Break Even Point of 46%, and an Annual Cash Flow of 29%. All of these parameters meet the industrial feasibility criteria, so that the pre-design of the xylooligosaccharide plant from bagasse is declared feasible to be established.
