Abstract

This study aims to analyze the value of friction coefficient, friction force, and wear rate of nyamplung oil (calophyllum inophyllumi) and SAE 10W-40 mineral lubricant. The lubrication variations used are a mixture of nyamplung oil and SAE 10W-40 lubricant with the composition M0 (100% SAE 10W-40), M20 (20% nyamplung oil + 100% SAE 10W-40), M40 (40% nyamplung oil + 60% SAE 10W-40), M60 (60% nyamplung oil + 40% SAE 10W-40), M80 (80% nyamplung oil + 20% SAE 10W-40), M100 (100% nyamplung oil). The test used an ASTM G99 pin-on-disc tribometer, with a temperature conditioning of 50ºC to determine how the lubrication performance at that temperature. Based on the test results, it was found that the M40 lubricant variation (40% nyamplung oil + 60% SAE 10W-40) had the smallest friction coefficient, friction force, and wear rate compared to other lubricant variations (without lubrication, M0, M20, M60, M80, M100), namely a friction coefficient of 0.074, a friction force of 4.767 N, and a wear rate of 0.00021 mm³/Nm. The results of this study concluded that nyamplung oil has the potential as a substitute for four-stroke engine lubricants, as evidenced by the addition of nyamplung oil to the biolubricant composition being able to reduce the friction coefficient, friction force, and wear rate.
