Somatic embryogenesis has turned out to be a major breakthrough in sugarcane biotechnology research. The embryogenic cell line is capable of being stored for a long time and it will not undergo a characteristic change. The aim of this study was to obtain such a medium, which may promote an excellent growth of embryogenic callus of sugarcane. Embryogenic cell was able to proliferate in a liquid medium of MS containing 2,4-D, L-proline and casein hydrolisate with the addition of arginine. However, the lack of 2,4-D as an auxin in medium causing cell death in the culture. This study showed that 2,4-D as an auxin in proliferation medium has an important role to proliferate embryogenic cell in a liquid medium and the resultant embryogenic cell did not lose its capability to regenerate as a new whole plant. © 2019 Friends Science Publishersen_US
