dc.description.abstractBackground: Bacterial and fungal infections can cause various diseases in the oral cavity. Therefore, we need the alternative therapy, herbal treatment, to inhibit the colonization of bacteria and fungi in the oral cavity so as not to aggravate the disease. The use of antibiotics and antifungal can cause side effects and bacterial resi stance. Purpose: The purpose of this article was to review the potential of robusta coffee as an alternative antibiotic to substitute synthetic antibiotics and antifungal. Method: This literature review uses references that are mostly drawn from national and internati onal journals over the past 10 years, and textbooks. Result and Conclusion: Robusta leaves and coffee beans presented active substances such as aldehydes, caffeine, phenols, chlorogenic acid, flavonoids, alkal oids and saponins. The various substances of the robusta leaves and coffee beans exhibited potency as an alternative to treat bacterial and fungal infections in the oral cavity.en_US
