dc.description.abstract | Background: Thermoplastic nylon is flexible and a good aesthetic denture base material.
However, it has disadvantage which it can absorb water. It affects the physical properties of the
material, especially reduction of the surface hardness. Clove flower extract can be used as an
alternative material as denture cleanser rather than to only use water. Objective: 1) To investigate the
effect of clove extract on the surface hardness nylon thermoplastic plate; 2) Determine optimal
concentration that can be used as denture cleanser without any effect on the surface hardness.
Methods: This study was experimental laboratories with post test only control group design. 30 samples
were devided into 6 groups, treatment groups were 0.8%, 1%, 1.2%, 1.4% and 1.6% treatment and
control group. The surface hardness of the thermoplastic nylon were measured with Microvickers
Hardness Tester. Data was analysed using One Way Anova. Results: There were significant differences
in the 1.2%, 1.4%, 1.6% concentration of clove extract compare to control. Conclusion: Thermoplastic
nylonplateafter soaked in 0.8%, 1%, 1.2%, 1.4% and 1.6% clove extract could affect the surface
hardness. 1% clove extract concentration i s the most effective as denture cleanser without a effect
the surface hardness. | en_US |
