Background: Pulp necrotic means the death of the dental pulp. The required treatment for this case is root canal treatment. The failures of this treatment are generally due to the inadequate sterilization of the canal, causing re-infection. The infection is inseparable from the role of bacteria, specifically Enterococcus faecalis (E. faecalis). These bacteria are commonly found inside the obturated root canal and acted as a marker of chronic apical periodontitis. Ethanol extract of the Jamaican cherry leaves (Muntingia calabura L) possesses a numerous benefits, one of which is as an antibacterial agent. Purpose: To acknowledge the antibacterial activity of ethanol extract of Jamaican cherry leaves and its minimum inhibitory concentration on E. faecalis. Methods: The well diffusion method was used to test the antibacterial effect. The positive control group (K(+)) was ChKM, negative control (K(-)) was sterile distilled water, and the treatment group was the Jamaican cherry leaves ethanol extract (EDK) with the concentration of 12.5%, 25%, 50% and 100 %. The extract was obtained from maceration with 96% ethanol. Following the experiment, the inhibition zones formed around the well’s hole were measured with a digital caliper. Conclusions: The result of Kruskal-Wallis test showed a significant difference with p<0.05. The result of Mann-Whitney test showed no significant differences between the groups K(+) with EDK100, K(+) with EDK50, EDK12,5 with EDK25 marked with p>0.05. Based on the experiment performed, the Jamaican cherry leaves extract has an antibacterial effect towards E. faecalis with minimum inhibitory concentration of 12,5%.en_US
