dc.description.abstract | Background: Periodontal disease is an inflammation of supporting tooth tissue and
if left untreated, tooth loss might occur. One of bacteria that cause periodontal disease is
P. gingivalis. The infection can be treated by synthetic or natural antibacterial. One of
natural antibacterial ingredients that can subtitute synthetic antibacterial is Manalagi
apple. Objective: To determine the inhibitory effect of Manalagi apple extract on the
growth of P. gingivalis and Manalagi apple extract smallest concentration which still be
able to inhibit the growth of P. gingivalis. Methods: The study was in vitro laboratory
experiment with the pre-post test only control group design. The inhibition test used paper
disc diffusion method. The inhibition effect was shown by the inhibition zone that as clear
region at surrounding the paper disc. The sample was into 5 groups: positive control,
negative control, and Manalagi apple extract consisted of 100%, 50% and 25%
concentration. Results: The results showed that the Manalagi apple extract concentration
of 100% and 50% had inhibition zone, but concentration of 25% had no inhibition zone.
Conclusion: Manalagi apple extract was able to inhibit the growth of P. gingivalis bacteria
and the minimum concentration of Manalagi apple extract which can inhibit the growth
of P. gingivalis was the concentration of 50%. | en_US |
