Distress is the negative stress caused by various factors that harm the body. Distress is a complex and dynamic process of the body systems that involve various complex systems in various levels. Distress response preceded by changes in homeostasis. If the body is unable to control the stability of homeostasis through various mechanisms, there will be various diseases in the body, including the oral cavity. Purpose. The aims of this paper are explaining the impact of distress on the oral cavity diseases. Discussion. Distress works through activation of HPA axis, which further activates the changes of behavior, and activates neurohormonal-neurotransmitter systems to regulate homeostatic of oral cells and tissues, as well as activate the immune responses to cope with the aggressive agents that cause oral diseases. Conclusion. Distress may cause oral diseases. Effect of distress in oral cavity are tooth mobility, tooth loss, bruxism, recurrent aphthous stomatitis/RAS (mouth, tongue, buccal mucosa), pain hypersensitivity, absorption of alveolar bone, xerostomia, halitosis, recurrent aphthous stomatitis/RAS,herpes labialis, oral lichen planus/OLP, and many other. To prevent the onset of the oral disease, anamnesis needs to be done correctly, in order to the diseases are not more severeen_US
