dc.description.abstract | Smear layer is a layer that is formed when dentine is prepared. Smear layer can disturb the
adhesion of restoration material to dentine, therefore it needs cleansing using dentine
conditioner. One of cleansing materials for smear layer is 10% poliacrylic acid. To achieve
optimal clean result of cavity wall preparation, it is necessary to use natural materials as
alternative and may minimize the side effect, like mangosteen pericarp extract (Garcinia
mangostana L.).This study aimed atknowing the ability of 100% mangosteen pericarp extract
on removing smear layer of cavity wall of tooth prepared. This study is experimental
laboratory using 10 samples of first maxillary premolar prepared with circle-shaped class 1
cavity design with 2 mm diameter, 2 mm in depth one third from the center of labial surface. 5
samples were applied with 10% poliacrylic acid, the 5 other samples were applied 100%
mangosteen pericarp extract, allowed for 20 seconds and irrigated with sterile aquadest and
dried. The samples were examined for their cleanliness from smear layer using SEM with
3500x magnifying. The result showed that the cleanliness of smear layer applied with 10%
poliacrylic acidwas lower compared to the group with 100% mangosteen pericarp extract.
Statistically, there were no significant differences between these groups (p=0,065 ; p > 0.05). | en_US |
