Framework of Incorporating Character Education into Indonesian EFL Listening Materials: a Proposal
Abstract
This paper offers a solution to Indonesian’s mission of incorporating character
education for higher institution. Characters is seen as a dimension of content competence
namely attitude in EFL listening classes. Developed using Content-Based Instruction
approach, the alternative view is reflected through materials design to target the strengthening
moral values, principles, and attitudes. The framework also responds to the perspective of
English as a Lingua Franca. It thus leads to learning targets to allow students to become
concerned, informed, and involved in developing self as a citizen, and to respond to 21st
century language competences, especially on the ability to embrace cross-cultural
understanding and use of digital technology in classroom language learning. The proposed
framework is offered through the decisions made on the materials’ resources, methods of
development, activities and assessment.
