Abstract

Oral hygiene of removable denture users is necessarily concerned, since it may support oral health completely. Removable denture users are necessitated to clean their dentures in order to prevent food debris attach on the denture. One of the methods to inform the users about how to clean removable denture is the communication built between dentists and the patients, and it may be accompanied by some aides such as leaflet. The purpose of this research was to study the influence of verbal and written communication by providing leaflet on the health behavior of removable denture users who ordered removable dentures at the Prostodontic Clinic in Dental Hospital Jember University. The samples of the research were the patients who came to Dental Hospital Jember University for removable denture. The samples were then divided into 2 groups, the first group achieved verbal and written communication (leaflet) and control group achieved only verbal communication. The communication explained the methods of maintaining a removable denture. It was conducted to each patient in control group three times. The health behavior was valued from the questioners concerning on the knowledge and the health behavior of the patients with removable denture. The results analyzed using t-test showed significant difference (p=0,00) on the knowledge and behavior between the two groups.
