dc.description.abstractAccording to WHO, in the world at this time the number of patients with impaired visual acuity as much as 180 million, and 45 million of them are blind. Sence of vision health survey in Indonesia in 1993-1996 showed the blindness 1,5 % and the main cause is cataract (1,02%) (Depkes RI, 1997). Air pollution is mainly caused by the smoke in the kitchen at home is closely linked to the incidence of cataracts and immune system changes. The objective of this study was to describe the risk of household fuel use on the incidence of cataracts in housewives. Sources of articles were come from a search through Google Scholar, DOAJ, Karger, and Scient Direct form 2005 to 2013. Once obtained, then be assessed to the extent of making articles literature review. This review shows the risk picture of household fuel use on the incidence of cataracts in housewives. Charcoal/briquettes have the highest risk of causing cataracts, followed firewood and kerosene. While LPG/Gas and electric cooker away from the risk of cataracts. The usage of fuels such as charcoal/briquettes and firewood for cooking at home apparently cause the increase risk of cataracts.en_US
