dc.description.abstract | Paddy mill have negative effect on the working environment. The dust from proccess
of paddy milling can cause respiratory disorder on paddy mill workers. The paddy
mill workers are informal workers that lake of concern by the goverment. This
research was intended to analyze relationship of individual characteristics, working
climate, and the amount of dust in the air with lung function abnormality on paddy
mill workers in District of Tlogosari and Pujer Bondowoso Regency. This research
applied analitic-observational method by cross-sectional approach and took location
at UD. Sinar Baru in District of Tlogosari and UD. Serampang Jaya in District of
Pujer, Bondowoso Regency from May to July 2012. The population of this research
were 9 paddy mills and sub-population were 2 paddy mills with samples were 50
persons. Data collection methods were questionnaire, interview, observation,
working environment measures and documentation. Data analyses applied by the
researcher were spearmans, pearson, lambda, contingency coefficient and logistic
regression. Based on statistical test, it was obtained that there was significant
correlation between age (p = 0,010), smoking habits (p = 0,011), lenght of work
period (p = 0,020), dust concentration (p = 0,000), extensive ventilation (p = 0,001),
and air temperature (p = 0,021). The result of multivariate analyses indicated that
the amount of dust in the air was the most associated factor with lung function
abnormality. It is expected that workers have to use breathing protection
continuously and reduce cigarette consumtion especially in work place. Then to
paddy mill owner and goverment institutions should be cooperate to increase the
occupational health and safety of informal workers. | en_US |
