dc.description.abstract | This research was conducted to identify the influence of family support on the elderly
attitudes in maintaining mental health of the women elderly at Posyandu Lansia
Harapan and Jember Permai I Sumbersari District Jember Regency. The research
was conducted using descriptive design by qualitative approach. In-depth interview
was conducted on 8 respondents. Subjects were taken from the target by using
snowball sampling technique. The interview was conducted to obtain more
information about the studied variables, including forms of family support and the
elderly attitudes on self-acceptance as old people, building positive relationships with
others, doing activities in accordance with self-adaptation ability of the elderly to
environmental stressors. From the results of in-depth interview of the level of family
support, it was known that 7 respondent families had supports included in the ‘good’
category and 1 respondent family had support classified in ‘poor’ category.
Meanwhile, for the level of attitude, it was known that there were 7 respondents who
had attitudes that belonged to ‘supportive’ category, and there was 1 respondent
whose attitude was in ‘less supportive’ category. The conclusion that can be drawn in
this study is that the family support influences the attitude of the elderly in
maintaining their mental health, and the factors that influence the attitude building of
respondents are experience, environmental condition and the existence of people
