Abstract

The batik industry generates wastewater containing hazardous pollutants such as chromium(VI) (Cr(VI)) and methylene blue (MB), which pose serious environmental and health risks. This study investigates the simultaneous adsorption of Cr(VI) and MB using polyaniline (PANI) as an adsorbent. PANI was synthesized by oxidative polymerization and characterized using FTIR and SEM. Adsorption experiments were conducted at 30 °C with varying contact times. The optimal concentration ratio for the multicomponent system was MB:Cr(VI) = 1:5. The results showed that MB reached adsorption equilibrium within 20 minutes, while Cr(VI) adsorption occurred more gradually. Kinetic analysis indicated that both Cr(VI) and MB adsorption followed the pseudo-second-order model, suggesting a chemisorption-controlled mechanism. These findings demonstrate the potential of PANI as an effective adsorbent for simultaneous removal of heavy metals and dyes from wastewater
