Cleft Lip and Cleft Palate in Children : Description and the Treatments
Abstract
Cleft lip is an abnormality shaped in cleft on upper lip suffered by a child since he or she was
born. When it is located at palate, it is called cleft palate. The cause of this these
abnormalities are the failure of palatal fusion in fetal time due to genetic or environmental
factors. Treatment of these abnormalities involves a team including dentist, dental surgery
specialist, plastic surgery specialist, and pedodontist. The appropriate time to conduct
surgery is very various and depends on type and severity of the cleft.
