A Self Reflection of My Emotions during Teaching Practicum: A Self Study
Abstract
The teaching and learning process was a place emotional involvement. In recent
years, research on the emotions experienced by pre-service English teachers has
largely focused on higher education and high school. The purpose of this study
was to find out emotional variations during teaching practicum in the junior
high school. I used Pekrun (2014) regarding academic of emotion, namely
arousal (activating and deactivating) and valence (positive and negative).
Furthermore, this research used Self-study as a research design that focused on
the emotional variation during teaching learning process. The research was
conducted using Braun & Clarke (2006) thematic analysis method in analyzing
data. The findings showed that there were 116 emotions representing 2 groups
(activating & deactivating) which were divided into each groups (positive &
negative). There were 64 emotions activating positive, 25 emotions activating
negative, 15 deactivating positive, and 12 deactivating negative. This showed
that the activating positive emotions were more dominant compared to other
group emotions.
