The Effect of Using Text-Twist Game on Vocabulary Achievement of the Students in Junior High School
Abstract
This experimental research was conducted to explore the effect of using TextTwist Game in teaching vocabulary on the eighth-grade students. This research was
conducted at SMPN 1 Kepung in the 2022/2023 academic year. The population of
this research was ten classes of eight-grade students. The participants of this
research were selected based on the homogeneity test result which tested by Levene
test of the students' scores for the whole population. Based on the results of the
homogeneity test, the population was homogeneous. Therefore, the experimental
group and control group were chosen two classes based on cluster random sampling
by using lottery. As a result, 32 students of class VIII A as experimental group and
32 students of class VIII C as control group. The students in the experimental group
were taught vocabulary by using Text-Twist Game while in the control group were
taught vocabulary by using printed text. Then after the giving treatment to the
experimental group using Text-Twist Game and teaching using printed text to the
control group, the researcher administrated the post-test in the third meeting to
measure the students' vocabulary achievement. The SPSS program was used to
determine the mean different between the two groups.
Based on data analysis, the results of this research revealed that there was
significant effect of using Text-Twist Game on students' vocabulary achievement on
the eight-grade students at SMPN 1 Kepung. It was proven by the significant value
of 0.000 which was lower than 0.05. This means that the hypothesis: "there is a
significant effect in the use of Text-Twist Game on the vocabulary achievement of
grade VIII students at SMPN 1 Kepung" is accepted.
Based on the results of this study, it was proved that there is a significant
effect of using Text-Twist Game in teaching vocabulary on the eighth-grade
students. Therefore, the researcher would like to give some suggestions to English
teachers, students and future researchers. It is recommended for English teachers to
teach vocabulary by using Text-Twist Game. It is also recommended for the students
to improve their ability to memorize and discover new vocabulary by using TextTwist Game. In addition, this result of this research can be used by future researchers
as a guidance to investigate further research on different skills, areas or design.
Besides, due to the limitation of this research, the future researchers are advised to
arrange research design such as classroom action research to improve students’
vocabulary comprehension learning outcomes using the Text-Twist Game
