Dinamika Asian Hate di Tengah Pandemi Covid-19 di Amerika Serikat
Abstract
Asian Hate is not a new issue in the United States. The hatred towards
Asians in the United States dates back to the early influx of Chinese immigrants to
the United States in the 1850s. The Covid-19 pandemic came as a trigger that
resulted in a massive increase in the number of cases of Asian Hate. The existence
of a provocative construct linking the Covid-19 pandemic as a "Chinese Virus"
was also a strong factor that pushed up the number of hatred towards Asian
people during the Covid-19 pandemic. This provocative construction has resulted
in Asian people becoming victims of violence and crime based on the idea that
Asian people are guilty of the Covid-19 pandemic. Discriminatory behavior
towards Asian people has become more intense and continues to increase in line
with the increasing number of positive cases of Covid-19 in the United States. The
fear of becoming victims of violence and discrimination due to the Covid-19
pandemic is felt by Asian people in the United States. This has resulted in Asian
people not being able to carry out their normal activities because they are always
overshadowed by feelings of fear and threat. In Human Security theory,
individuals have the right to be able to live their lives without fear, Asian Hate
appears as a frightening shadow for groups of Asian people who cause
psychological trauma.
