Pengaruh Model Pembelajaran Probing Prompting terhadap Keterampilan Berpikir Kritis Siswa SMP pada Mata Pelajaran IPA
Abstract
The problem faced in the research is the low critical thinking skills of junior high school students in science subjects. This research aims to determine whether there is an influence of the Probing Prompting model on students' critical thinking skills in science material as well as the criteria for improving junior high school critical thinking skills in science subjects by using the Probing Prompting learning model. The type of research applied is a quasi-experiment with a nonequivalent control group design. The research population is class VIII students at Ajung 2 State Junior High School for the 2023/2024 academic year. The research sample taken was determined by purposive sampling. The methods used to collect data include observation, interviews, documentation, and critical thinking skills tests. The independent sample t-test was used to determine the homogeneity of the data. Hypothesis testing uses the independent sample t-test and the N-Gain test. Analysis of research results using SPSS version 25.0 produced a significance value (2-tailed) > 0.05, indicating that the application of the probing prompting learning model had a positive effect on students' critical thinking skills in science subjects. Then the results of the N-Gain test for each indicator show that the influence of the probing prompting learning model starts from high to low including interpretation, self-regulation, explanation, conclusion, evaluation, and analysis. Based on the average gain of the N-Gain test, it is found that there is an increase in critical thinking skills in the medium criteria. The application of the probing prompting learning model is quite effective in improving students' critical thinking skills.
