MOTIVASI WANITA PEKERJA SEKS (WPS) DALAM MELAKUKAN TES HIV/AIDS (Studi Kualitatif di Kabupaten Jember)
Abstract
Indonesia is one of country with HIV and AIDS epidemic evolving quickly
with heterosexual risk factor. As high risk group, Female Sex Workers has to hold
routine VCT to avoid the HIV infection. Purpose of the research is to discuss the
motivation of Female Sex Workers in HIV/AIDS test. Kind of the research used is
descriptive research with qualitative approach. Deeper interview is conducted to
7 FSWs using purposive sampling technique. Based on the study consisting of
Female Sex Workers 21 – 38 years old, they have elementary school education
(elementary school graduates/equivalent), generally Moslems, widows, and
become FSWs for 2 years. Female Sex Workers have low knowledge about
HIV/AIDS, but generally have internal motivation to move, motivate, lead, and
support their habit in doing HIV/AIDS test. Whereas extrinsic motivation can
come from Female Sex Workers’ social environment, such as NGOs, peer
educators, pimps, Female Sex Workers’ peers.Generally Female Sex Workers get
support from NGOs in the form of information through counseling about
HIV/AIDS, but some of informants don’t recognize peer educator. All informants
get support from pimps and generally get support from peers such as encouraging
and reminding to do HIV/AIDS test. All informants don’t have support from their
family or nearest person because Female Sex Workers cover the job status. Beside
that, the nearest persons of Female Sex Workers don’t have any knowledge about
HIV/AID.
