dc.description.abstractBanyuwangi has a large forest. Forest products are utilized for industrial purposes, for example, Pinus merkussi and Hevea brasiliensis wood. The utilization two plants is mostly for sap. The extraction of sap cannot always be used, because these plants have a productive period, which is less than 30 years. After 30 years, the trees will be cut down to regenerate. The logging will produce very abundant wood. In Banyuwangi, the amount of pine logging reached 5000m3, and rubber reached 3000m3. However, the utilization of the wood is still very little, generally is to cordwood. To increase its economic value, the wood is used to make fruit crates. On the other hand, the knowledge and skills of making fruit crates are one of the cultural treasures owned by the older generation. For this knowledge and skill not to be lost, it needs to be socialized to the younger generation in the form of written documents. Based on this background, a study was conducted on "Botany Economic of Wood for Fruit Crate Making Materials in Glagahagung Village, Banyuwangi Regency" which aims to determine the characteristics and economic value of pine wood and rubber wood in Glagahagung Village. Research data were obtained by observation, interview, identification, and documentation. The sampling method used in this research was purposive sampling method and obtained 12 peoples. The results of this study obtained the scientific name of the wood used are Pinus (Pinus merkusii) and Rubber (Hevea brasiliensis). Based on the results of the research conducted, the two kinds of wood are used as raw materials for making fruit crates. A fruit crate is a box-shaped container used as a place to store fruit. The process of making fruit crates starts with drying the wood, cutting the wood, and assembling the crates. Fruit crates produced in Glagahagung Village are sold at a price of Rp13,000. Every month, up to 20,000 fruit crates are produced. The existence of the fruit crate manufacturing industry has positive impact to owner and the surrounding community.en_US
