Visual Content Analysis of STEM-Related Content on Biology Textbook of Vocational High School in Indonesia
Abstract
This study aims to the analysis of textbook visual content on Biology in the Vocational High schools in Indonesia. The Biology textbook of Vocational High School is necessary to further analyze to identify because diverse visual content creates different perceptions for a certain student. Furthermore, the obvious visual concept in a lesson will help students comprehend the material thoroughly. Therefore, the biology textbooks' visual content needs to be clarified even though the textbooks published have been adapted to the latest developments in science and technology due to the curriculum system and categorized as proper textbooks. However, there is the fact that several textbooks have been distributed still to weaknesses in the suitability of the visual content for students to catch the material concepts. This research is a descriptive qualitative study for visual content on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) in Biology textbooks of the Vocational High School. Descriptive analysis using NVivo was performed in this study consisting of 197 visual samples from the two different books. Through this research, it can be recommended for Biology textbook writers to present suitable visual content to improve students' understanding and their learning outcomes by linking STEM visual content to adapt student innovation in the 21st century.
