Exploring Senior High School English Teacher’s Strategies in Classroom Management: A Case Study
Abstract
Teachers attempt to make the teaching and learning process conducive without any disruptions. However, it is not an easy thing to do because there might be some disruptions, for example students who do misbehavior actions in the classroom. Thus, this study was conducted to know senior high school English teacher’s strategies to manage his class which has many misbehavior actions and how he applied the strategies in the teaching and learning process. This case study was conducted at senior high school that is located in disadvantaged area. This study used semi-structured interview and classroom observation. The participant was the senior high school English teacher who was recruited by using purposeful techniques. The interview data was analyzed using thematic analysis and the observation data was analyzed by using deductive coding. Based on the result of data analysis, the teacher used five strategies in classroom management such as praising the students, giving corrective actions, calling the students by name, inviting the students to have private discussion, and giving non-directive hints.
