Abstract
The confrontation that occurred between Indonesia and Malaysia was triggered by Indonesia's opposition to the formation of the Malaysian Federation by the British. The conflict between the two countries is a combination of diplomatic pressure, press campaigns, and threats of military force with limited military infiltration in the border region. Various diplomatic efforts to end the confrontation between Indonesia and Malaysia were carried out so that the two countries could resolve the conflict peacefully. The formulation of the problem in this research is; (1) what was the background for Des Alwi being involved in settling the confrontation between Indonesia and Malaysia in 1963-1966?; (2) how was Des Alwi's struggle in resolving the Indonesia-Malaysia confrontation in 1963-1966? The results of this study are that the Indonesia-Malaysia confrontation was an armed conflict that took place in 1963-1966, due to Indonesia's opposition under the leadership of President Soekarno who was anti- nekolim to the formation of the Malaysian Federation or the Commonwealth of Malaysia which was deliberately ridden by the British. Des Alwi's efforts to assess reconciliation have been carried out, so that he is trusted to be a mediator in ending the confrontation and participating in OPSUS (Special Team Operations to resolve the Indonesia-Malaysia confrontation). Des Alwi was tasked with exploring Malaysia-Indonesia peace through diplomatic means that actually succeeded in ending the confrontation between Indonesia and Malaysia.
