dc.description.abstract | Kepundung (Baccaurea racemosa Muell.Arg.) is one of the beneficial plants in Indonesia which contains flavonoids,
polyphenols, tannins, and terpenoids that exhibit antioxidant properties. The presence of antioxidants in plants could be associated
with antidiabetic activity of these plants. This research was conducted to determine the antioxidant and antidiabetic activities of
methanol, ethanol, and ethyl acetate extracts from Kepundung leaves. Extraction was carried out by the ultrasonic method.
The antioxidant activity was determined quantitatively by DPPH method, while the antidiabetic activity was evaluated by using
α-amylase inhibition method. The IC50 values from the determination of antioxidant and antidiabetic activities was obtained by
using UV-Vis spectrophotometer at the maximum wavelength. Results of the antioxidant determination showed that IC50 values of
methanol, ethanol, and ethyl acetate extracts were 9.38 ± 0.15, 10.55 ± 0.09, and 946.70 ± 2.31 ppm, respectively. This indicates
the methanol and ethanol extracts give the best results in antioxidant activity. Meanwhile, IC50 values of in vitro antidiabetic
activity of methanol, ethanol, and ethyl acetate extracts were 67.63 ± 0.36, 67.46 ± 0.23 and 841.04 ± 1.52 ppm, respectively.
