Proceeding Workshop on Humanitarian Law and Humanitarian Diplomacy: From Perspective to Practice 2013en_US
This paper provides some constraints in the attainment of the purposes of humanitarian diplomacy in some sectors such as politics, economy and law. As we know that humanitarian diplomacy can be defined as the efforts to influence world leaders and policy makers to priority and tackle humanitarian cases. However, diplomacy is also a tool of a country in achieving its national interests which are often conflicting with other country’s interest. The states are still dominated by power even with the use of a soft instrument in its achievement. In addition, although the current globalization and transnational relations have happened in the world, but state centrism is still outstanding. It is becoming a major obstacle in realising humanitarian diplomacy action which is taken by the states to assist vulnerability. Furthermore, the non government organization as an important component that is closer to the ' grassroots ' level and have access to the decision maker in a country often thus pose a problem due to their impartiality and neutrality. However, the sophistication of information, communication, and technologies provides a huge opportunity for the completion of the constraints. The method of this paper is library research.en_US
