Improving the Seventh Grade Students' Vocabulary Achievement by Using English Songs at SMPN 2 Kencong Jember

The research design used in this research was a Classroom Action Research. The objectives of this research were to improve the seventh grade students' participation and vocabulary achievement in the vocabulary teaching and learning process by using English Songs at SMPN 2 Kencong Jember. The research area and the subjects of the research were determined by using purposive method. The students of class VII-C were chosen as the research subjects in this research. The data collection methods of the research were vocabulary achievement test, observation, interview, and documentation. The collected data were analyzed by using percentage formula. This research was conducted in two Cycles to meet the criteria of success. The result of this research showed improvement at the students’ participation and vocabulary achievement. At the second cycle there were 86% students were active and 79% students achieved the standard score minimum. Based on these results, it was known that the use of English Songs could improve the VII-C students' participation and their vocabulary achievement.
